Foundation
A foundation degree is a preparatory course designed for students who do not yet meet the entry requirements for a full undergraduate degree. It helps build academic skills and subject knowledge, and is especially popular among international students. Typically lasting one year, it can lead directly into the first or second year of a bachelor’s program.
Top-Up
A top-up degree is a one-year course that allows students with a foundation degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) to upgrade their qualification to a full bachelor’s degree. It focuses on refining subject expertise and research skills, often tailored for career advancement.
Bachelor's
The bachelor’s degree is the standard undergraduate qualification in the UK, usually taking three years to complete. It provides in-depth knowledge in a chosen field and serves as the foundation for professional careers or further study. Common degrees include BA (Bachelor of Arts), BSc (Bachelor of Science), and BEng (Bachelor of Engineering).
Masters
Master’s degrees in the UK are advanced academic qualifications pursued after a bachelor’s degree. They come in two main forms:
Taught Master’s: These include structured courses like MA, MSc, and MBA, with a mix of lectures, exams, and a final dissertation. They usually take one year full-time.
Research Master’s: Degrees such as MRes (Master of Research) or MPhil involve independent research under supervision, often as a pathway to a PhD.
